Days/Hours of operation: The Refuge is open every day from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset in designated areas. The Visitor Center is open daily year-round from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Check our website for any seasonal closures.

Tours: Self-guided and as scheduled.

Focus: Wildlife, Birdwatching, Nature Walks, Accessible Trails, Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing, Habitat Management, Wetlands. Exhibits in Visitor Center (year-round). Nature Photography Exhibition (Fall); Horseshoe Crab-Shorebird Festival (May.)

Ages/Grade levels: All ages and grade levels

Materials: Refuge and trail maps, canoe and kayak maps, fact sheets/brochures on fish and wildlife. Will mail materials with three weeks’ notice.

Cost: Admission is free; donations accepted.

An absolute gem of a place in Delaware, didn't get the chance to do all of the trails, but the ones I did were immaculate and well maintained. You will need insect repellent during the summer or you will get eaten alive, after all it is a marsh which is a mosquito haven.

No public access to the three miles of sandy beach.
There is a short boardwalk thru part of the marsh area. I believe you can launch a kayak in to the marsh area.

Liked very much, did two trails, hardly found any birds. Able to practice Intentional Camera movement techniques.
