We were asked to order another drink or leave the place around 10:00pm on Sunday night, Aug 31 (Labor Day weekend). There were like 6 more customers there. Chasing customers away is their business model. It seems they didn’t like fact that we got in before 9:00pm (when they start charging a $25 cover). Yes, we were not ready to order alcohol.
Specifically, calling out the big black bartender who kicked us out (our group was multiethnic as well). I will tell all my DC friends and Instagram followers not to patronize Diego’s bar (unless the owners crawl on their knees, apologize, and fire the staff).
To owners: do you know not realize a bad word spreads out quickly in the community on social media…

⭐️⭐️ — Misleading hours and no heads-up for visitors.
This bar lists itself as open until 1:30AM, but that’s not the full story — and if you’re from out of state, it’s easy to get burned. They stop letting people in at 12:30AM, and by law, alcohol can’t be served past 1:00AM. That’s fine if you know the rules, but the bar doesn’t make any of that clear upfront.
So you show up around 1 expecting a drink and a scene, only to be turned away or stuck outside during a weird, dead last 30 minutes with no drinks and no vibe. It’s especially frustrating because the way they advertise it feels intentionally vague. “Open ‘til 1:30” makes it sound like things are going ‘til 1:30 — not that everything stops an hour earlier.
If you're a local, maybe you know the drill. But if you're visiting? It just feels like a bait-and-switch.
